The lower back tattoo design has a long and inglorious history dating all the way back to the
mid 1990s, and in an effort to burn white-space, I offer, The infamous, unabashed, history of the lower

1929: The Toronto Star published an article about the
commemorativeCharlie Chaplin postage stamp. Charlie was famous for a character he created called The
Tramp, put them togather and the "back tattoos for women" seed was planted.
May, 2004: Lindsay Lohan hosts Saturday Night Live and 'stars in a commercial parody of
the lower back tattoo design titled Turlington's Tramp Stamp Tattoo Remover.

2005:The movie Wedding Crashers raised the international consciousness of the planet when Vince Vaughn's
character remarked, "Tattoo on her lower back?" Might as well be a bullseye.
2006: The Washington Post slams MTV in an article entitled 25 Years Down the Tube with this
witty intro …stay tuned as MTV takes you on a bus with five, 19 or 20 year old women, all with tramp stamp tattoos
on their tailbones, as they find themselves Next-ed by a finicky, shirtless, over-muscled dipwad. Gotta love the
MTV.
That same week: The Observer of London marveled at the recent popularity of the lower
back tattoo design and proposed the following future tattoo designations for their readers to consider. The under
boob, trout pout, skank flank, and the toe cleavage, to name a few.
February 2007: On her talk show Promiscuous Girls, host Tyra Banks invites five women to
talk about their past sexual indiscretions. A male member of the audience stood up and said all it took for him to
identify the easy girls was their tramp stamp. Befuddled, Miss Banks inquired, What's a tramp stamp? The five women
all stood up at the same time and turned around, revealing their lower back tattoo design.

November 2007: The always cutting edge St. Pete Times, brought the now-almost- famous tramp stamp back into the
spotlight as the subject of a he said/she said type column featuring David Norrie and Shannon Van Sickler. It was
called The Curse of the Dreaded Tramp Stamp.
In the article Norrie jokes that "tramp stamp" is one of his favorite phrases, and finds it funny that so many
people use the seemingly insulting phrase for something they have.
Women with tramp stamps are not necessarily sluts, but they do typically fulfill a stereotype, says Norrie,
further adding to insult, and I quote, "Their not the quiet girls, their boisterous-doing a couple of shots,
downing a couple of pictures, maybe running around nude". It was The Times most popular column ever.
October 2008: Reporting on the European Breeders Fund Race, the daily "Racing Post" leads off a
story with the headline 'Tramp Stamp puts in a strong performance under Davey Russell'. The article also went on
saying, Davey had to work Tramp Stamp really hard, but brought the filly to the finish line with a firm grip and a
light whipping.

March 2009: Mattel unvails their latest, the Totally Stylin Barbie doll, complete with a large selection of peal
and stick tattoos. What sparked the public out cry? Barbie's included lower back tattoo. What can we expect from
Mattel in 2010? Stripper Barbie, complete with sequenced pasties with tassels and a polished dancing pole, or maybe
a new reality show on Bravo entitled The Real Barbies of New York.
October 2009: In an effort to attract attention to photos from the new "HiRise" camera orbiting
mars, the way cool space-geeks from NASA came up with this thought provoking headline in a press release, Mars Has
a Tramp Stamp. Woosy from the thought when asked about the title, the lead scientific hipster was quoted as saying,
"It's like Mars went on a all-nighter and came home all done up in fresh ink. I couldn't have said it any better.
Actually, he was talking explaining how the still images of dust devils and cyclones, looked like a tramp
stamp.

In an opinion piece in the New York Times titled 100 to Blame: Superstar CEO's, Tramp Stamps, and more… The
author, Bruce Feirstein, states the top 100 reasons for the current recession. 95. Tramp
Stamps-"Because like so much else that marked the wretched excesses of the era, these hideous tattoos
said, I'm proud of the idiocy I committed last night, I don't care about tomorrow." Continuing he goes on to
say..."They were the flesh equivalent of that big screen TV that you couldn't afford, the only difference
being that you might eventually pay off the TV, but you have to look at the tattoo forever".
February 22, 2010: The tramp stamp again was spotted at the 2010 Winter Olympics in an ice
dancing routine showcasing Johnny Cash music and some daisy dukes. During the performance by the British
sister-brother duo Sinead and John Kerr, the stamping was clearly visible to all on Sinead's lower back as she
heated up the ice to the man in black's classic I've Been Everywhere.
November 2047: The St. Pete Times makes history again when it coins the newly popular phrase,
Gram stamp, and examples of the aging faux pas are featured in the near by Salvador Dali Museum.
All kidding aside, the lower back tattoo design is one of the most popular
today and was originally designed to accentuate the natural curves of the female form and when designed correctly,
can meet that objective with a well thought out choice and as a bonus it can be easily covered up with a shirt.
Just remember, when choosing this tattoo, less is better, no one want to see the crack of dawn raising from the
